Environmental and Location Concerns Before unboxing your printer, Samsung recommends finding a suitable place. The CLX-3175FN performs best if it is set on an almost perfectly flat surface in an area with good ventilation - any tilt that is greater than approximately 1/12th of an inch will affect print quality. To fully extend all of its trays, you will need a surface that is significantly larger than the printer as it comes out of the box. An optimal surface has at least 3.9 inches to the left and right of the printer, 7.1 inches behind it and 18.8 inches in front of it. Avoid exposing the printer to direct sunlight and, if you are installing it at an altitude above 3,281 feet, set the altitude adjustment in its menu once you have configured the printer. Preparing the Printer After you've lifted the printer out of its box and removed the packing materials, it still needs additional configuration. Remove any packing tape that you see that holds doors, panels or rollers in place.
Open the top cover and slide in the included feed tray for the automatic document feeder. Once you've done that step, slide out the main paper tray located at the bottom of the printer's front panel. Flip out the front covering so that you can access the paper tray and slide the paper feed aligners so that they will tightly hold your paper.
Fan out a stack of paper and slide it into the paper feed tray, readjusting the bottom support so that it is flush with the stack. Flip the cover back up and over the front of the paper tray and insert it into the printer.
Power and Fax Connection To connect your printer to power, insert the power plug's female end into the terminal near the lower left corner of its back panel and plug the other end of the plug into a wall outlet or, preferably, a surge strip. The printer won't power up, though, until you turn on the power switch located near the power terminal. To connect the fax modem to an analog telephone line, connect a modular telephone plug between the bottom phone terminal on your CLX-3175FN and a wall jack. You can also plug a telephone into the top modular phone terminal on your CLX-3175FN. Network Connection Making a network connection requires you to connect an Ethernet cable between your printer's Ethernet port and an extra port on your hub or switch. Once your printer is connected, turn it on. Use the printer's menu to assign it a static Internet Protocol address that will work with your network.
After setting the printer's IP address, you can enter that address into a Web browser on any computer on your network and configure the printer with its SyncThru configuration system and control panel.
